Don’t hold your breath for an OnePlus 9T in 2021

[ad_1]

We have been used to seeing OnePlus launching two flagship lineups every year. Since the OnePlus 3 series, the company has been launching a regular numbered flagship series in the first half of every year, and a T-series flagship close to the end of every year. This has been changing since the last year. In 2020, the company unveiled just a vanilla OnePlus 8T and left users without a OnePlus 8T Pro. Now, it seems that the company is completely ditching the T-series. According to a reliable tipster, Max Jambor, the company will not release a OnePlus 9T. At least not this year.

Some months have passed since the OnePlus 9, 9 Pro, and 9R launch. Now, that the company has launched the OnePlus Nord 2  and completed its 2021 portfolio of midrangers, one can guess that the company will focus on the OnePlus 9T. Apparently, there won’t be a OnePlus 9T to expect at all. We can expect more Nord smartphones, however.

The tipster did not give the exact details regarding the lack of a OnePlus 9T this year. However, it does make sense for the company to focus on a single flagship series every year. Especially now, that the OnePlus Nord is acting in the entry-level and even in the flagship terrain. The recently released OnePlus Nord 2 packs the Dimensity 1200-AI which can deliver flagship-like performance. Furthermore, the OnePlus 9R also acts as a cost-effective flagship for the OnePlus 9 series, despite it being available only in India and China. Another possibility is that OnePlus is shrinking its smartphone portfolio now that it is merging with Oppo.

OnePlus 9T specifications have been circulating through the rumor mill

So far, rumors have been suggesting a OnePlus 9T with a 108 MP quad-rear camera. The device was also rumored to come with an LTPO Samsung E4 flexible AMOLED display. The screen would be a Full HD+ panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate. Other possible specifications include 65W fast-charging and a battery with the usual 4,500 mAh battery. Now, we don’t know if these rumors will be sustained. Anyway, we can’t completely discard the smartphone yet.

Another possibility behind the OnePlus 9T’s absence is that the company is holding resources due to the ongoing crisis in the chipset market. Samsung, for example, discontinued the Galaxy Note series this year and will just unveil new foldable smartphones in August. That said, OnePlus could use the holiday season to unveil a new lineup or new product. Time will tell.
